Calbayog City, August 23, 2023 – The second phase of the Calbayog Airport by-pass road construction project has officially commenced, promising significant relief for local commuters and travelers. The Samar First District Engineering Office (DEO) announced today that this crucial infrastructure project, funded with P69.12 million from the General Appropriations Act (GAA) for Fiscal Year 2023, is already in progress.
The by-pass road, an extension of the initial phase (Phase I), is designed to span 0.761 lane kilometers with a road width of 6.7 meters. It will also feature 547.50 linear meters of stone masonry, enhancing its durability and safety. To ensure improved visibility and security during nighttime travel, 30 solar LED lights will be strategically installed along the road.
This ambitious multi-year construction project, initiated in 2022, is slated for completion by 2025. Once finished, it will serve as a primary route diverting traffic away from congested areas. The diversion road’s significance is expected to increase further when the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) makes the decision to close a section of Daang Maharlika for their expansion plans.
The Calbayog Airport by-pass road is a much-anticipated development for the region, aiming to alleviate traffic concerns and enhance connectivity for residents and visitors alike. As construction progresses, local authorities and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will closely monitor the project to ensure its timely completion and adherence to safety standards.
