SOCCSKSARGEN pens MOU for research and innovation agenda

Koronadal City, June 18, 2024 – In a significant stride towards advancing research and innovation in the region, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the SOCCSKSARGEN Research, Development, and Innovation Research Agenda (SOX RDIRA) was formally signed on June 18, 2024, at Paraiso Verde Hotel, Koronadal City.

The signing symbolized a collaborative effort between the Regional Development Council (RDC) XII, the Regional Research Development and Innovation Committee (RRDIC) XII, SOCCSKSARGEN research and development consortia, State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), and Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in the region.

First unveiled on May 3, 2024, the SOXRDIRA outlines the region’s research and innovation priorities, aligning with development targets and identifying available funding channels.

At the press conference following the MOU signing, Assistant Regional Director Romel Patrick E. Tanghal of NEDA XII highlighted the agenda’s potential to address societal challenges through research and innovation. He emphasized the importance of a centralized databank for research efforts in the region, stating, “SOXRDIRA helps us prioritize research funding and directs resources to studies that will significantly impact SOCCSKSARGEN’s development, potentially triggering positive economic changes.”

The MOU establishes a solid framework for coordinated research initiatives among SUCs and consortia, aiming to catalyze transformative impacts across sectors and support the goals outlined in the SOCCSKSARGEN Regional Development Plan.

The ceremony was attended by key stakeholders from academic institutions, research consortia, government agencies, and the media, demonstrating broad support and commitment to the initiative.

With the MOU now in effect, stakeholders are poised to utilize SOXRDIRA as a guiding framework for research and innovation. This centralized approach is expected to streamline research efforts, prevent duplication, and facilitate informed decision-making among policymakers and stakeholders.
