COTABATO CITY (October 12, 2023, John Unson) — All five in a family were charred together when men set their house in Barangay Indahag in Cagayan de Oro City on fire after killing them one after another on Tuesday night.
In a statement Thursday, the Cagayan de Oro City Police identified the fatalities as Melgene Galpo, 31, his spouse Manilyn, 30, their children, the elementary first grader Yolem, the four-year-old Jolo and a relative, Maggie Epanes, 25.
Barangay officials in Indahag are convinced they were first murdered before their house, made of semi-permanent materials, were burned down by men whom witnesses saw ran away as smoke started to billow from its windows.
Investigators from the Cagayan de Oro CPO and personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection are still trying to put a closure to the gruesome incident. (JOHN UNSON)
